Joe Biden’s Gun Control Plan
When Joe Biden was a candidate for President of the United States, he laid out very clearly what he would do to address gun violence in the country. He also had his plan laid out in great detail on his campaign website, www.joebiden.com/gunsafety. It should come as no surprise to anyone that now that he’s president, he plans on implementing drastic gun control laws and executive orders. In case you forgot, here are the highlights of his gun control plan.
Assault Weapon Ban
Similar to the 1994 Assault Weapon Ban that Biden helped author while in the Senate, President Biden will take aim at what the left has dubbed “assault weapons”. The 1994 bill was flawed in that it only addressed the outward appearance of a weapon, and didn’t actually address lethality. For example, the 1994 Assault Weapon Ban prohibited a rifle from having two or more of the following features:
- Folding Stock
Pistol Grip
Bayonet Mount
Flash Hider or Threaded Barrel
Grenade Launcher
There’s no evidence that the Biden Assault Weapon Ban will be any different.
National Firearms Act
Another major part of Biden’s Gun Control Plan is to attack currently owned “assault weapons” and “high capacity” magazines. His plan calls for classifying these two items under the National Firearms Act of 1934. Currently, the NFA regulates the purchase of fully automatic “machine guns”, silencers, as well as short-barreled rifles and shotguns.
If Biden gets his way with the NFA, it would mean that every legally owned rifle that they classify as an assault weapon would now require to be registered with the ATF and require a $200 “tax stamp” be purchased for each weapon owned. The same would go for every single magazine over 10 rounds. For the average law-abiding gun owner, that would amount to thousands of dollars in taxes to register the guns and magazines that they already legally own. Failing to register your weapons and magazines can result in a fine of $250,000 or up to 10 years in jail or both. Not to mention confiscation of all of your guns and forfeiting your Second Amendment right forever.
Additional Gun Control Measures
The Assault Weapon Ban and the National Firearms Act are the two main pillars of Joe Biden’s Gun Control Plan. However, he also has several other, smaller gun control measures which he also plans to implement. One step is to limit gun purchases to one gun per month. I wouldn’t be surprised if they try to lower that number to one gun per year at some point. Also expect them to attack ammunition, limiting the number of rounds a person can purchase per month or per year. They will likely also tell you that you can’t buy ammo for a caliber of gun that you don’t own.
Speaking of sales, Joe Biden plans on ending online sales of guns and ammunition, and push for legislation that will hold gun manufacturers accountable for deaths caused by their products. I could write a whole article just about that, and how ridiculous it is.
Conclusion
Joe Biden has been president for almost 100 days, and we have yet to see any serious legislation or executive orders that address gun control, even in the wake of several high-profile shootings. But don’t be lulled into complacency. Gun Control IS coming.
